It’s important to know even just a bit about tires and tire size. After all, you wouldn’t want to get the wrong sizes for your car. How do you find out your tire size and what do the size figures stand for?

Size Importance

It’s a big mistake to try to fit the wrong sized tires on your car. A lot of things can happen. At the very least you can reduce the performance capacity of a car that would ordinarily work fine with the right tires. You therefore get less for what you bargained for. More importantly though, ill-fitting tires can be the cause of accidents and on-road mishaps. These can result in injuries and life threatening situations. You should never underestimate the value of proper sized tires.

How to Find the Size

You can identify your tire size in many ways. The most logical place to start is to look into your car manual. You can however also find the size of the tires on the placard on the driver’s door or on the sidewall of the tire itself. If you are online and you do not have your car beside you, you can log on to some websites that will allow you to enter your vehicle type and model to find the size that will fit it.

What the Figures Say

If you look at your tire’s sidewall, you will see a series of letters and numbers. These constitute your complete tire size information. It may seem like a foreign language but the letters and numbers stand for important information that you may have to keep in mind.

- The first letter will tell you what kind of vehicle the tire can be used for. It could be intended for a passenger vehicle, light trucks, heavy cargo trucks and European cars. Some tires can also be designated as temporary spares. Following its intended use will be numbers that stand for the tire’s width in millimeters.

- Other important pieces of information that you will be able to get from your tire sidewall are the aspect ratio, tire construction, tire and wheel diameter, load index and speed rating.

Asking Your Dealer

Even if you have some knowledge about sidewall information you may still not be sure about your tire size. You may also be uncertain that you can interpret the information correctly. If this is the case, you should consider asking your tire dealer.

Choose your tire dealer, though. You need one who has had considerable tire knowledge. A good tire dealer will look into your type of vehicle, brand, driving conditions and your personal performance preferences before giving you some advice on the right tires to use. This means you need customer oriented employees who are more than just salespeople but tire and car experts as well.

The importance of getting the right size can never be stressed too highly enough. When in doubt, the safest route is to ask experts for advice and help.

Truck owners love how powerful their vehicles are. Trucks need lots of power because they’re designed to haul and tow heavy loads without difficulty. However, many truck manufacturers use fairly quiet exhaust systems on their vehicles, despite their powerful engines. If you want your truck to sound as powerful as you know it is, or if you’re aiming to reduce the constrictions on the exhaust, then consider adding to or altering your truck’s exhaust system.

The factory exhaust system already on your truck is already a pretty efficient system and doesn`t really need much modifications to be improved. The first part of your truck’s exhaust system is the exhaust manifold, which channels exhaust from individual cylinders into larger main pipes. These systems are efficient and don’t need to be changed, but if you decide you want to anyways, you’ll need a set of headers. Quality headers like the ones you’ll want will have a ceramic coating and factory mounting points for the sensors. Most of the time though, the standard manifold is more than good enough.

After the manifold, exhaust travels through the catalytic converters. These are already very efficient and legally required to be on your truck, so you’re much better off leaving these alone. The only time you’d do really do anything with the factory catalytic converter is if you were adding an extremely powerful upgrade to your engine, such as a turbo- or supercharger.

As they leave the catalytic converters, exhaust gases will cool down a bit and enter the muffler. The factory mufflers usually aren’t too restrictive, and replacing them won’t make a huge difference in the amount of hp or torque you get. The average change is about 3-5 hp and 5-10 ft-lbs of torque. After market mufflers, however, will make a dramatic change and are definitely worth the money. Your truck will sound much better! After the mufflers, exhaust exits the truck via the tailpipe. You can add tailpipe tips to this part, but it’ll be purely for decoration purposes, and won’t affect the exhaust system in any way.

Obviously, the most logical thing to do if you want to make a change to your exhaust system is to exchange the factory muffler for an after market one. It’ll produce the biggest, most noticeable results. Consider this when looking at after market mufflers:

First, do you want to hear the exhaust ALL the time? In other words, when you drive down the highway, is a little exhaust drone OK? If not, make sure you choose a muffler that’s not described as being loud. Check the web and ask your local muffler shop for advice on finding a good muffler. Many muffler manufacturers are even putting sound clips on their websites now.

Second, do you want something that people can slightly hear when you drive by, or do you want something so loud that the neighbors know exactly what time you leave for work every morning? Words like “racing” or “glasspack” usually indicate exceptionally loud mufflers, so watch out for those terms unless you want a lot of attention.

Choosing between a single or dual exhaust muffler is another important decision you’ll have to make. If your truck came with a single exhaust, then a single after market exhaust will be enough to keep good performance. If you prefer to get a dual exhaust, be prepared to spend more money in exchange for better sound and look. Make sure your installer works around your trailer hitch, or leaves room for one, just in case you decide to add one later.

Finally, what exhaust system material is best? It’s a decision that should be based on geography. If you live anywhere near the corrosive effects of saltwater, stainless steel is the smart choice. While it’s more expensive up-front, it will last much longer than galvanized or aluminized steel in these climates. People living in dry climates really don’t need to purchase stainless steel – if rust attacks their system, it will be years before anything is damaged.

The RV is a staple of the classic recreational vehicle. But choosing the right one can be a tough job, as there are plenty of options to choose from. Other variables such as family size or even budget constraints can limit possibilities down, but as consumers find, there will still be a rather lengthy list of choices.

First to decide is the size of RV needed. After all, buying an oversized RV would just be a waste of money- and buying one too small could make the purchase pointless. Most families will get by with the average RV, while larger families will need deluxe editions so as to accommodate the entire family. Larger options will require more money, on average, so it’s best to get the smallest size possible.

One single factor can often have the biggest impact on the price of an RV: whether or not the RV has its own motor. An RV motor will make the price of an RV skyrocket, as it must be powerful enough to power the RV as well as tow a vehicle behind it. RVs without motors will be much less expensive, but a powerful vehicle will be required to tow it around for the vacation.

Extras are available for those who are well endowed enough to afford them. Electronics such as microwaves, toasters, and even TVs or DVD players can be obtained. Running water, mini stoves, and spacious bedding can also be obtained for a bit more extra than the average pricing.

Competitive pricing is something to seek out when obtaining an RV. Mentioning to dealers that one is planning on visiting other locations for RVs can slash off hundreds or thousands of dollars in the end. But just don’t bluff- actually take the time to go around visiting multiple dealers so as to find the best deal, with the best payment options, and the best feature sets.

Another good way to get a great deal is to buy the RV used. Buying a used RV can be a tricky task, and will require much test driving to ensure there are no problems with it. Try to get as much testing time in, as RVs have many aspects that need to be tested in order to make a final decision. It’s also possible to get a great deal over the Internet, where websites and auction resources commonly sell RVs for incredibly low prices.

Closing Comments

It can be tough to find the best deal in RVs. Always make sure that enough dealers are visited, so as to get the best deal. Also make sure to investigate the issue of including a motor on the RV or not, as well as RV size and Internet shopping. Take a few days at the very least to choose the right RV- as it is clearly not a good idea to be making impulsive decisions when dealing with so much money.

Reminding the world of the issue of Prisoners of War (POW) and those soldiers Missing in Action (MIA) is the purpose of the annual Memorial Day Rolling Thunder ride through Washington DC. Rolling Thunder is an annual event to keep the issue in the public awareness.

When the US was involved in North Vietnam in 1965, the non-stop bombing was known as “Operation Rolling Thunder. The rally is named from that sound.

In 1988, two veterans of the Vietnam War, Artie Muller and Ray Manzo, rallied together a group of fellow veterans, family members and veterans’ advocates to organize a demonstration during the Memorial Day weekend, to be held at the Capitol Building in Washington, DC. The group became known as Rolling Thunder and each year since has held an annual “Ride for Freedom” to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

Initially focusing attention on those POWs and MIAs after Vietnam, it’s grown on a large scale. Rolling Thunder participants are often veterans, and many ride motorcycles, but all persons can participate.

This year we started with just under a half a million riders forming up in the Pentagon parking lot. It was an honor to ride in the Rolling Thunder Rally. We honor our nations missing heroes and shall never forget those that gave their all for freedom. Our participation symbolized our respect for all of the veterans of this country, living and deceased.

It is a stirring , emotional experience to display that proud patriotism while choking back a tear of remembrance.

The sound of a hundred thousand motorcycles starting up as the ride filled the air as the first groups of riders took to the streets of DC. It was very loud yet very subdued at the same time. Emotion filled the air.

The sun was shining and the rally route took us through downtown Washington. Supporters packed the streets and waved and flashed peace signs as we rode by. You could feel the common bond that untied us in this cause.

Riding to the Vietnam Vets Memorial was a serious event. We listened to those honoring the missing soldiers and noticed the thousands of Americans that supported us in our recognition. This public display of support for the missing and unaccounted heroes was moving.

This type of event remains with you for all of your life. It touches the young and old alike. A strong emotional day remembering the purpose of Rolling Thunder.

by Elizabeth Murphy

Installing a car seat can be a daunting task, but it is vital in ensuring the safety of your child while riding in a motor vehicle. When a car seat is not properly installed, several problems can arise. First, the seat may be loose and uncomfortable for the baby; second, there is unnecessary wear and tear on both the seat of the car and the car seat; and third, the baby can be seriously injured or even killed in the instance of a car accident. There have been many cases in which children have been seriously injured due to improperly installed car seats and, then again, there have been many children saved as a result of a car seat that has been installed properly.

Nevertheless, It doesn’t matter if you’re running down the street for a loaf of bread or going to buy today’s newspaper, it is important that the car seat be installed properly and the baby be placed inside of it correctly. Here are some steps to take when installing a rear-facing baby car seat:

If installing in a car, make sure the car seat is installed in the back seat. If installing in a truck, then the seat needs to be installed in the middle of the seat. However, if there is a back seat, baby should always be there because of air bags and other factors that could cause harm in case of an incident.

The car seat should always be positioned to where the baby is facing the back. The car seat should not be straight up, but positioned in such a way that the baby is lying down.

If at all possible, place baby’s car seat in the middle of the back seat, which can reduce impact in case of an accident.

Make sure the seat belt is tight around the car seat and that it is buckled tightly.

When installing a forward-facing car seat, there are also some very important things to keep in mind when properly installing the car seat:

First, the car seat should always be located in the back seat of the car and never in the front seat due to airbags and the possibility of injury from the windshield in case of an accident.

Move the front seat that the car seat will be located behind forward to get it out of the way and allow for enough room to work.

Second, go ahead and route the seatbelt through the designated belt path and be sure to pull the seatbelts as tight as possible and then buckle the seatbelt.

Some seatbelts have a lock-off clip, which can be quite useful. If you don’t know how to use it, read the owner manual. If the seatbelt pulls all the way out and then clicks when it retracts, then the seatbelt locks itself. The locking clip should be used if the seatbelts do not lock themselves.

The shoulder part of the seatbelt must be locked because it is actually the lap section of the seatbelt that is keeping the car seat in place.

After installation, try moving the seat. If it moves more than an inch, then it needs to be tightened or reinstalled.

By following these steps for installing rear-facing and forward-facing car seats, your child should be receiving the maximum safety that a car seat has to offer. That way, if an accident does occur, the chances of your child becoming seriously injured is considerably less than if riding in a car seat that is not properly installed.

When it comes to vehicle safety, automakers are a little puzzled. How can it be that vehicle-related fatalities in the U.S. have been steady at 40,000 deaths a year even as vehicle safety measures continue to improve? Is all this vehicle safety technology really making us safer? One company has announced that the problem is not with the safety of the cars – it’s with the drivers themselves.

New research from Robert Bosch LLC suggests that two out of every three drivers don’t hit the brakes hard enough before an accident. This doesn’t mean the driver wants the accident – it’s simply the nature of the human condition. During an accident, a multitude of things are competing for the driver’s attention, from multiple warning systems going off and distractions from other passengers, to the simple act of processing what’s going on in the surrounding environment. All these combined together can delay the decision-making process a few milliseconds too long, and impair the driver’s ability to hit the brakes fast enough, or with enough force.

As a solution to this, Bosch proposes using a predictive brake-assist technology, which constantly monitors the vehicle’s surroundings to detect any likely accidents and determine stopping distance. If an accident is evident, the brake-assist technology will react by activating the hydraulic brake, which the vehicle’s computer has engaged for full-force braking as soon as the anticipated accident is detected.

There are over two-million front-end collisions each year, and while there is no way to know how much the predictive brake-assist system will reduce this number, it’s reasonable to assume it will help in some way. However, there is some argument that this technology will actually hurt safety. The argument is that because drivers will not understand the technology, they will assume the car will do the majority of the braking for them, and will not attempt to stop the car themselves. This argument seems absurd, but should not be discounted completely. More testing should be completed before this type of safety feature is mandated.

Some manufacturers have already begun using predictive braking technology in their vehicles. Mercedes-Benz, for example, uses the system in their SL550 model. The car is able to sense an emergency based on the amount of pressure the driver uses on the brake, and then applies the maximum power boost. Other manufacturers, such as Toyota, Cadillac, BMW and Volvo are experimenting with adding the technology to their future lines.

The predictive brake-assist system is just one example of a growing body of technology designed to improve vehicular safety. Another item currently in the works is the lane departure notification system. It uses an electronic eye to detect if the car is driving within the lines. If the vehicle drifts outside the lines, the system will emit an audible warning. This technology will most benefit drivers who may be falling asleep on the road.

In keeping with the idea that drivers themselves can be a safety issue, Bosch has also proposed modifying current vehicle safety ratings to include a sixth star. The sixth star will be used to rank a vehicle’s accident avoidance systems, such as predictive braking and lane departure notification. It’s a good way for consumers to compare a vehicle’s complete safety rating, rather than just its crashworthiness.

No matter the reason for a travel you can be assured there is a recreational vehicle for you. Motorhomes can be used for overnight stops to a trip around the United States. Anyone can live the life on the road in a Motorhome.

In your pursuit for your perfect recreational vehicle make sure you have all the information you need to make the best decision for buying a recreational vehicle. It is important that you take as much time as you need in deciding if you want to buy a recreational vehicle as well as if your going to live in it, it takes commitment. There is unlimited information out there for recreational vehicles on the Internet, you are urge to take some time and do some research online (i.e. search engines, newsletter, RV forums), as well do some leg work visiting manufacturers, dealerships, and campgrounds. You may even start a conversation with a current owner they are usually willing to talk about their experiences and the pro and cons they have found in the living or traveling in a recreational vehicle. Research should include do you want a new or used recreational vehicle, then the make, model, length, accommodations needed.

Before investing in a motorhome you need to set a budget. Motorhomes are homes for some people and for others a home away from home. Buyer’s need to think about all their options they have regarding motorhomes, some run on gas or diesel fuel. Motorhomes come in several different makes, models, color, and price. There are Class As, Class Bs and Class Cs motorhomes.

In the process of making a budget you need to decide how much you can afford to spend, how much of a down you will need and can afford, as well as the payment, and how long do want to make payments. Do you need financing, recreational loan are easy to come by even if you bad credit.

You can get financing from either the dealership you purchase your motorhome from or online as well as your bank, the application process is a simple one, the loan officer will assist you along the way. It is normal that the process of financing a used motorhome take a little longer so don’t worry.

The reason for this is the depreciation of the motorhome lowers as soon as you drive it off the lot. In a new motorhome you have the option to add as many upgrades to better personalize it to your needs, as well as increase the value.

You have lots of ways to choose your motorhome from the manufactures, like Winnebago, Airstream, or Monaco. With each manufacturer their are models, and then there are styles as well as options each one has. Manufactures take alot of time designing and building the best motorhomes they can from suggestions that customers give them. They take pride in their work. You have the elite line and you have a economical line just like in automobile industry.

Please make the time to read the owners manual, you will find it offers lots of information, and warranties in it. It will also explain how to operate appliances, electrical systems, and plumbing. If you have safety questions there is an area for that too.

Dreamy motorhomes/a> are everywhere. But, hassle free RV Sales dealers are hard to find. Go straight to the most popular dealers on the web from Clint Westfall’s most voted for companies.

In choosing a motorcycle helmet, there are many different features you should be looking for. The ones that will be the best for you are those options that will help with comfort and convenience for you.

You can have many awesome add-ons as cool motorcycle helmet features. One really convenient feature if to have a quick change shield mechanism. This will mean you can quickly and easily change your shield.

To keep an extra helmet in case you have a passenger, you can buy a motorcycle helmet storage bag. These bags attach to your bike, keeping the helmet there when you need it, and protecting it when you don’t.

Other motorcycle helmet features help to keep small annoyances away. Some helmets come with a strap guard which keeps the extra fabric of the chin strap from flapping while you ride and striking you.

If you’re riding somewhere humid, a good motorcycle helmet feature for you may be removable pads. Every few rides, if the pads are starting to get stale, you can wash them and then place them right back in your helmet.

Another motorcycle helmet feature that many riders enjoy is a scratch resistant shell. This will keep your helmet looking new and shiny long after you first buy it, and keep you looking sharp as you ride.

If you have a shield that tends to fog from the inside, you may want to look for a new helmet with vents. Beware however that vents can lead to a louder ride, and do protrude a bit from the helmet.

When you’re ready to buy a new motorcycle helmet, you should look for one with the motorcycle helmet features that best suit your needs. You want a helmet that is as safe and comfortable as possible.

Disaster strikes! Your car has been in an accident! That’s your baby, your transportation! But its OK because you have insurance, right? After you get over the stress of the accident itself and you’ve settled down, you call your insurance agent. Good so far. Then they tell you that you have to call the claims department and that they are not allowed to help you further. Now you begin to worry.

Before you get too worked up, take a breath. These days, submitting a claim to your auto insurance agency is really not that painful a process. Most companies have developed efficient, fair processes for handling claims. It saves them money, and good customer service helps them keep the premiums flowing in.

Most agencies will recommend a repair shop to you, and you can have your car towed right to them. The agencies have been through this many times, and they know which shops provide the best service, and honest prices. They may ask you if you’d prefer a different shop, but going with their pick is usually the best idea. Sometimes they can handle the entire process with just a few phone calls.

In fact, you may have very little to do with the whole process. Most claims are processed “behind the scenes,” with the insurance companies and shops doing all their work, and then simply asking you to authorize the work. Many times, all you have to do is sign the repair order.

But even with all of these conveniences, it still pays to be careful and protect yourself. Make sure that all of the necessary repairs are part of the repair order; sometimes there are deeper problems beneath the surface. Make sure that the repair shop has done everything necessary to find those deeper issues. Once the work is done, inspect the vehicle carefully before you drive it off the stop lot. It is much harder to bring it back and convince the shop and the insurance company that a problem was there when you picked the car up.

And as long as you are in this position, think about your auto insurance. Good auto insurance is worth its weight in gold. You can save a few dollars on your premiums, but how much is that worth when you’re fighting a claim for months on end, or a claim is denied altogether?

This is a good time, too, to pat yourself on the back for getting good insurance. You could have saved a few dollars a month on cheaper premiums, but now you’ve saved yourself months of disputed claims and denials.

The good news is that most claims are handled quickly and without much effort on your part. If for any reason you are unsatisfied with the way your insurance agency handles the process or don’t like the outcome, let them know by taking your business elsewhere.

Your new car (or your new car dealer) is giving you a headache. There’s a problem and the customer service you’ve received hasn’t been good enough. You feel like you’ve done your part, but your problem is still unresolved. How do you get it solved?

Even if you left previously with a negative experience, your local dealer is still the best person to work with to resolve your complaint. Local dealerships are interested in creating loyal lifetime customers, and they know the best way to do that is by making you happy. A dealership can spend a fortune on advertising trying to attract customers, but statistics show that good customer service is by far the best way to keep them.

Your local dealer is far more likely to help you if they believe this transaction will benefit them. This is especially true where there is a cost to the dealership involved in solving your problem. If they’re investing money in keeping you happy, they want to know there’s a reasonable chance they’ll earn that money back later through your repeat business. The best way to prove you’ll be a good customer later on is to prove that you’re a good customer right now.

The best way to show you’re a good customer is to be nice. Restrain the urge to shout or swear – a smile might not feel as satisfying now, but it will get you further. Staff that resent you probably aren’t going to be too helpful towards you. Make an effort to get along with the dealership employees – they’re probably as frustrated with the problem and eager to get it resolved as you are. Get what you want by giving the staff a reason to want to help you!

If there is one person you should talk to about your customer service problem, it’s the dealership’s General Manager (GM). GMs are authorized to do almost anything to maintain excellent customer service, and they can be an incredibly useful person to talk to. They are able to get senior executives on the phone at short notice, and are themselves professionals experienced in solving customer service problems. They are essential to contact if you’re looking to get the manufacturer to do something for you.

In the rare case that speaking with the GM of your local dealer doesn’t work, the next step is to call the manufacturer’s customer service hotline (the number can be found in your owner’s manual). You should try to contact the local regional office as well. While the local regional office will probably just refer you to the national hotline, you may be able to speak with a regional Toyota executive. Persistence is key.

In sum, your local dealer is the best place to start if you’re trying to resolve a customer service complaint. Be courteous and polite always, and give people a reason to want to help you. Remember to speak with the general manager, and if that doesn’t work, keep calling the manufacturer’s national hotline and regional office. Persistence pays off when you’re looking for great customer service!
