Protecting Yourself on the Road

by Thomas Tooma

Riding a motorcycle is an exhilarating experience-feeling the horsepower of the bike beneath you, the wind blowing around you-there is nothing else quite like it. It is just you and the open highway. The thrill does not come without danger, however, as motorcycle accidents are actually far more catastrophic than car crashes. The likelihood of suffering a traumatic head injury or perishing in motorcycle accidents is increased because the biker has nothing to absorb the force of the crash but his or her body. In an instant the thrill of just you and the open highway becomes the horror of just you and the pavement. Motorcycle accidents can be singularly catasrophic.

There are ways of protecting yourself. Intelligent bikers wear helmets and other protective gear to minimize injuries in the event of motorcycle accidents. They also observe good motorcycle maintenance and familiarize themselves with the hazards peculiar to motorcyclists. These things do not negate the possibility of motorcycle accidents occurring, naturally, but knowledge can be helpful in averting many crashes.

Motorcycle maintenance can cut down on your chances of suffering motorcycle accidents. While it is important to take care of a car or truck, it is even more important to keep a motorcycle in excellent running order. As motorcycles are always less stable than four wheeled vehicles, their tires should have special attention. Make sure they are always in straight alignment, and be vigilant of tire damage or wear. Brakes should be checked frequently, as should any lights on your bike.

On the road, motorcyclists should look for road conditions which would not hinder a car but which would send a bike flying all over the place. Potholes, loose pebbles, speed bumps, and salt or sand used for melting ice can result in deadly motorcycle accidents. Debris like shreds of tires or junk from the back of a truck can also be hazardous. Oil and other spilled fluids can be a real problem for a motorcycle, too.

Finally, weather can be problematic. Aside from being miserable to ride in, fog, snow, downpours, and ice can be far more deadly to motorcyclists than drivers. For one thing, bad weather make it difficult for drivers to see you. They also limit your ability to see other vehicles and any existing road hazards. The number of deadly motorcycle accidents goes up in bad weather.

Go ahead, indulge your love of the open road, but before you hit the road, arm yourself with the know how to avoid motorcycle accidents.

Motorcycle Accident Victims: Get Legal Aid

by Fabian Toulouse

To those who are not motorcyclists, it may be impossible to understand the lure of something which, to the outsider, seems so dangerous. After all, you are riding a two-wheeled vehicle at high speeds with nothing more than your clothes and, hopefully, a helmet between you and the pavement in the event of an accident. When you consider how much more of a threat seemingly insignificant things like speed bumps, potholes, and debris are to a two wheeled vehicle than to an automobile, the risk seems even more rash.

For the most part, these are people who have never felt the wind whipping their face, the immediacy of the connection to the open road, and the excitement of negotiating traffic. It is invigorating, liberating, and exhilarating. The possible problems are definitely worth the rewards.

Admittedly, however, the thought of a motorcycle accident can cause a shudder on occasion. After all, there really is very little to protect a motorcyclist in the event of a wreck, and the chance of suffering a bad injury is far greater to a motorcycle rider than a passenger inside a car or truck. Even with a helmet, injuries can be horrific and recovery long. In the event of a motorcycle crash, it pays to hire an experienced lawyer, one well-versed motorcycle laws and, preferably, a motorcyclist himself!

Such a lawyer knows how to get the greatest possible settlement in cases involving a motorcycle. The thick legal language and paperwork that is so foreign to the average person is no problem to a lawyer, and the tricks used by insurance companies to avoid payment are anticipated and belayed. When your motorcycle lawyer will not ask for a fee unless he successfully settles your case, you know he is going to fight all the harder!

With any luck, you will enjoy a rewarding life full of smooth cycling, but in the event of a motorcycle accident, it is nice to know where to turn for help. When you are recovering from accident injuries, the last thing you want to be doing is struggling with insurance companies and courts!

Deciding on the Best Design for Your Custom Motorcycle

by Jeff Glasser

So you’ve decided you really do want a custom motorcycle. Congratulations, you’ve just taken the easy step. Choosing what type of custom motorcycle you desire is now the fun part. Are you willing to trust the imagination of a motorcycle manufacturer or do you want a truly custom job that you design. Either way there are benefits. There is the added benefit of knowing that the bike will truly represent you if you decide to play a major part in the design of the custom motorcycle. To help you design the best bike here are a few tips.

Tip # 1 Pick an Overall Theme

Chances are there is an overall theme to the bike for any custom motorcycle that you have come to admire. It doesn’t have to be something specific; some people simply use a single idea such as a wave or the wind as the idea that they are trying to present with their motorcycle. Others have a more specific motif in mind, such as spider webs or a shout-out to World War II vets.

Tip # 2 Choose a Bike Sized For the Rider

It is a very good thing a custom motorcycle can come in just about any size considering motorcycle riders span just about every physical size out there. If you want your motorcycle to be truly customized, make sure your bike design is built to fit your body. Design a bike that is a little bit wider and has a wider tire, if you’re a little more heavyset, or you want a bike that is great for touring the country.

Tip# 3: Select Parts that are Replaceable

Choosing to make the motorcycle with parts that are hard to find, is one of the areas where most new designers of a custom motorcycle make the biggest mistake. It’s a hard truth underlying just about any mechanical endeavor — parts will break down eventually. A real hassle is having to hunt for parts at different mechanic shops.

Tip # 4: Find a Color Scheme that Fits Your Style

The paint job is perhaps one of the most noticeable parts of a custom motorcycle. Many people spend hours upon hours trying to decide on the perfect look for their custom motorcycle. Instead, take a look at the world around you for inspiration; chances are you’ll be able find the best choice for your color scheme out there.

California Motorcycle Accident Lawyer: Wins Settlements

by Fabian Toulouse

Every state has different regulations for motorcycles. Some states have ways of coming up with partial responsibility for accidents, others do not. Some mandate helmets while others leave the choice up to riders. Equipment maintenance and inspection laws vary, as well. No matter where you are, in the event of a motorcycle accident it is worthwhile to seek out a lawyer who specializes in motorcycle statutes.

While some accident victims try to make their way through the sea of red tape on their own, it is not always the best course of action following an accident. For one thing, there is a limit to the time in which you can file a claim, and if you miss it, you may not be able to collect. For another, employing a motorcycle lawyer actually increases the chance of a higher settlement.

Face it, lawyers understand the system. They know the tactics used by insurance companies and fellow lawyers to avoid from paying settlements. For instance, it is not unusual for them to use all the prejudices against motorcyclists when settling a case.

Motorcycle lawyers are also aware of more grounds for asking for higher settlements. You may just be looking to pay for doctor bills and motorcycle repairs. A good lawyer, however, will seek damages for things you may never have dreamed of, like loss of future wage earning capacity and pain and suffering. You could struggle with insurance companies for months with little success and a lot of run around, but a lawyer with a 98.7% settlement success rate is going to put up a fight! That confidence is backed by a promise that no fees are required until a settlement is won.

Why add to your troubles after a California motorcycle accident? Instead of slogging through the settlement process yourself, why not relinquish your case to a professional? You worry about healing and getting that bike back on the road! Leave the insurance and legal worries to an excellent motorcycle lawyer.

Motorcycle Attorneys: Help After an Accident

by Fabian Toulouse

As gas prices keep jumping steadily with no relief in sight and no hope of ever seeing cheap fuel again, more and more people are turning to motorcycles, wanting to squeeze more miles into every gallon of gasoline. Indeed, motorcycles get far better mileage that do their weightier four-wheeled counterparts.

However, with the rise in motorcycle use comes a concurrent rise in the number of motorcycle wrecks. Accidents involving motorcyclists are most easily handled by hiring motorcycle attorneys, personal injury lawyers who specialize in motorcycle law. It is smart to contact an attorney soon after an accident, as there may be a time limit for filing your case.

There are many rational reasons for choosing to hire a lawyer instead of trying to deal with the paperwork for your accident yourself. For one thing, dealing with insurance companies can be notoriously difficult. The paperwork can be a nightmare, and, unfortunately, undue prejudices against motorcyclists often come into play.

Another compelling reason to select an attorney who knows the laws regarding motorcycle accidents is that the settlement you receive is frequently higher with a lawyer than if you pursue your case on your own. Lawyers just know what to ask for! You may or may not be aware of all you are entitled to claim in a suit, and what insurance company is going to volunteer that information? A lawyer can get a better settlement than a layman nearly every time.

Sure, you might be able to fix things yourself, but who needs all that craziness after a frightening event. Concentrate on recovering from your injuries, and leave the other headaches to a professional? With a proven motorcycle lawyer who asks for no fee unless and until your case is settled, what is there to lose? So if you have been in an accident, save your energy for getting better (and bike repair!) and leave the settlement battles to a motorcycle lawyer.

Motorcycles: Great Mileage

by Fabian Toulouse

Motorcycles have been a popular sort of transportation for at least a hundred years. The first motorcycle of any kind was devised in the United States in 1867 by a man named Sylvester Howard Roper, although it ran on by steam, not petroleum. As with early automobiles, it took German engineers to come up with a two-wheeled vehicle that would run on petroleum.

In 1885, Gottleib Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach designed what was in effect a motorized bicycle, but that was enough! By 1894, motorcycles were built for purchase by the public and the love affair began. In countries all over the world, people found motorcycles to be an efficient, cost-effective, and definitely enjoyable means of transportation.

With the rising cost of fuel, motorcycles are becoming even more in demand, as they generally get significantly better gas mileage than other vehicles. However, the rising number of accidents is not a good result. Motorcycles have always been involved in a disproportionate number of crashes in comparison to the number of car accidents, and the injuries sustained tend to be more dangerous. There are four times as many fatal motorcycle accidents as there are car accidents.

Therefore, it pays to wear a helmet, keep your bike well-maintained, to completely steer clear of drinking alcohol before riding, and to educate yourself on sharing the road safely. If, despite all your best efforts, you have a wreck, you need to know what to do. Getting the proper information from the other driver involved is critical, as is visiting a doctor, even if you feel perfectly fine. Reporting any accident to your insurance company is recommended, but as far as the hassle of handling your settlement is concerned, it is often wise to seek the help of a motorcycle lawyer.

Motorcycle lawyers know all the procedural hoops of dealing with insurance companies and courts, and they can usually get a healthier settlement for you. Best of all, when you hand over everything to a lawyer, you do not have to suffer the annoyances and red tape that go along with any accident settlement. With a motorcycle lawyer who only charges a fee after the settlement of a case, it really makes sound sense to let someone else fight for you.

Personal Injury Attorney: Handling Your Frustration

by Fabian Toulouse

Everyone always thinks accidents happen to somebody else, but if you have been in an accident involving a car, truck, or motorcycle, it pays to follow a few rational procedures. The parties involved should exchange critical information such as names, contact information, and insurance companies. Never leave the scene of even a negligible accident without doing this.

You should always be checked out by a physician immediately following any accident. Many people disregard this advice, but it is wise. Even if you feel fine, some injuries are not apparent to you at first, presenting problems down the line. It is better to be seen as a matter of course than to take chances and be sorry later.

Finally, it is a smart idea to visit a personal injury lawyer. These are attorneys who specialize in cases involving physical or psychological problems resulting from the fault of another person. The cause does not have to be calculated; inattention is often at the root of such injuries, especially in the case of vehicle accidents.

A personal injury attorney can perform a variety of requirement following an accident, including filing your claim, arguing your case in court-though most cases involving accidents are usually settled outside the courtroom-drawing up any necessary legal documents, and advising clients. While an attorney is not absolutely necessary in the event of an accident, it can truly make things easier, and consultations are often free. Even better, you can commonly find a lawyer who charges no fee unless your case is settled.

If you are a motorcyclist and the accident involved your bike, it is a smart move to engage a personal injury attorney who has chosen to specialize in motorcycle law. That means he or she has a considerable amount of experience dealing with cases like yours. If you want to save yourself a lot of headache (and likely receive a much settlement in the end) seek out a motorcycle attorney to manage your case.

Full Face Helmet – Motorcycles Are Cheaper On Gas

by John Daniele

Motorcycles never have been known for their safety. Any vehicle has its risks though. Often times the operators of cars are not watchful enough of the cycle riders. Both the motorcyclist and the car driver need to watch for each other. The cycle rider should keep their lights on rain or shine and remember always to wear their helmets just to be careful.

All riders should be concerned about being safe. Often times this is attained through donning boots, leathers, gloves, and of course a helmet preferably a full-face model. A jacket and pants is what the term leathers refer to because these are usually made from leather, which protects one from skin scraps. The rider can happen to have a fall with the bike that all of this gear will protect and safeguard the rider from. Full-face helmets are not required but they are strongly recommended as the helmet to purchase due to the extent of the coverage and protection they offer.

Physical attractiveness is another trait that cars and cycles have in common but in different areas. The one problem with cars is that some cars a big and cloddy looking. The sport models can be shiny and visually exciting to look at. But all models are not created equal and neither are colors and styles. You will want to look a bit to see what appeals most to you. Cycles have a similar appeal but the one thing that is way different is the addition that you can view the riders whole body opposed to the car hiding the body.

The rider in all his leather gear is seen by everyone around unlike the car drivers. When a rider is all decked out in their gear they can be quite a sight especially with the full-face helmet. Men and women both with admire each other on their bikes. But if the rider happens to be a woman she may get a tad more attention than a man.

The way cars use gas should be a crime sometimes. Certain models just plain use too much gas. Better mileage is happening more these days but still not what it should be. And with gas prices at all times high prices this has become a major problems for some people.

But with cycles it is something different. You may have to stop and get gas more often but only due to smaller gas tanks that only hold about 12 gallons. Because the bikes are not as hefty weight as most cars are this causes them not to burn as much gas trying to move them on the road. The extra weight of the rider on the bike really makes very little difference as to how the cycle performs gas wise. The mileage that is attained with a tank of gas is much more satisfactory on a cycle compared to a car.

Prices are so very opposite from each other between cars and cycles. The cars are always more money than the cycles. All the things you have to do to make sure a car runs right cost a lot of money too. Brake jobs, twice the tires, alignments and more need to be done and it adds up money wise. Even if you buy a used old rattletrap for a few hundred dollars you would still have to put a lot of money into making it drivable. The depreciation of a car starts with it losing 1/3 of its value just driving off the car lot. You can not only get all your accessories and you bike for less than a car you can probably get an extra set of gear and it still be cheaper.

The motorcycles are still cheaper even when you price the cost of the leather gear you wear. The pants and jacket typically called leathers can get quite expensive but the rest of the gear is not too bad. All of it together is still much lower priced than a car. If you shop enough you can pick up a used cycle for about $300.00. When you look at the cost of gas being cheaper boy does your pocketbook feel good.

Full Face Helmet – Motorcycles Are Cheaper In The Long Run

by John Daniele

As vehicles go motorcycles are known to be the least safe of them all. You ask is any vehicle guaranteed? No is the correct answer. The car drivers often do not pay attention to the fact that motorcyclists are on the road. This creates a bit of danger so both drivers that of care and on motorcycles should be aware of each one of them. One other thing that will bring some attention to the bike rider is having their lights on. They should also have a full-face helmet on too to be safe.

Any rider should want to be safe when enjoying their cycle. By donning your full-face helmet along with your boots, gloves, jacket and pants made of leather you will be safeguarding yourself against at least some injury. The full-face helmet is probably the most important safety feature listed here. There is nothing worse than to suffer a serious head injury and any way you can protect your head and brain from injury it is worth it. The name for the pants and jacket part of the outfit is usually called by the term “leathers”.

Cycles and cars have a certain presence that is appealing but in ways not similar to each other. Depending on which color and style you choose in the brand you like a car can be either big and clunky looking or small and sexy looking. With cycles it can be similar with the exception that bikes also show the whole body of the rider and cars do not.

The full body of the rider is totally seen when on motorcycles. With everyone decked out in helmets and special clothing male and female alike notice not only the rider but the cycle too. The lady riders do tend to get a bit more attention when riding. I wonder why? The ladies are also respected for learning how to operate a cycle efficiently.

The way cars use gas should be a crime sometimes. Certain models just plain use too much gas. Better mileage is happening more these days but still not what it should be. And with gas prices at all times high prices this has become a major problems for some people.

A cycle is just plain cheaper than a car even with the expense of all the gear and add ons. For about $300 you can get a cycle that has been ridden before. Put that cost together with the fantastically good gas mileage and your wallet will be so grateful.
