To make a successful test batch of you need to make certain you are using the correct mixture of lye!! If you are using unused vegetable oil then you need to use 4 grams of lye. And if you are using used vegetable oil you need to use 6 grams of lye. You can start out making test batches using a simple blender.
The first thing you need to do when making a homemade biodiesel test batch is to get a big THICK mixing container; it gets hot!! Then add your lye and methanol, a little bit at a time. You need to then mix until the lye has fully dissolved. What you have left is known as methoxide!! Next you need to pre-heat the vegetable oil and add to the methoxide. Throw this in the blender on slow for about 30 mins, and allow to sit for 1 day. Your mixture should have thin liquid on the top and thick liquid at the bottom.
