The Ford Focus is kept running by the 2.0L Duratec 20 I-4, engineered with dual overhead cams activating four valves per cylinder. This power plant features a new air intake system, cooling and exhaust systems designed to improve smoothness, responsiveness and competence. There’s also the Duratec 20E offered in states that espouse California emissions standards, qualifying Focus as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle. With both Duratec 2.0L versions a 5-speed manual is standard, with a 4-speed automatic available as an option. Ford Focus is also efficient on gas mileage with its maximum EPA estimated rating of 24/35 mpg – city/hwy.
The inner trimmings of the Ford Focus will make you sit up and stare. It starts with the voice-activated media center called SYNC. Stereo sound in the Ford Focus begins with an AM/FM system with an MP3-capable single-disc CD player, four speakers and audio input jack – standard on all models. A 6-disc in-dash CD changer is an option on Focus SE and SES. So is the Audiophile System. One hundred and thirty channels to change on the SIRIUS satellite radio comes with a complimentary 6-month subscription. You can also change the ambient lighting inside the cabin.
Among the many improvements they made to the 2008 Focus chassis, engineers gave the brake system new aluminum calipers and specified 10.8-inch vented discs up front and 8.0-inch drums in the rear. The smooth and straight stopping action of Anti-lock Brakes with Traction Control is available as an option on all models. Standard is the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
